5 Ways to Manage your Diet for Diabetes

Since I was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 11, my diet has changed dramatically. I maintain my current healthy weight through a great diet. If you plan to lose more than one stone, I would consult your doctor for more advice on how to do it safely. I have been diabetic for seven years now, but to tell you that the way I maintain my weight is completely wrong for me.

However, I can advise you to follow my steps because I know what works and what doesn’t.

Before I really start, I must also say that I was raised by wonderful parents who taught me to eat everything, and that’s what I do! If there’s something you don’t like, there are plenty of other diabetic recipes and ideas that you will eat and enjoy.

I am a college student and I love to buy fresh and organic products from home. I think it’s important because it’s probably the best for your body and contains more nutrients and vitamins than most supermarket products. I love stocking up at the bimonthly farmers market in town, which sells great meat and dairy, as well as fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables. Another important thing to remember is that eating fruits and vegetables when they are in season means they will taste better as well as good for you.

I’m heavily influenced by Western European cuisine (mostly French and Italian) as you will say, but I don’t call myself a chef and everything is easy and convenient. I have read countless diet books and cookbooks/diabetes diets, and have come to the conclusion that I believe it really works. I combine all the good stuff from the diet (but not from all the diets) and make my own. I call it a healthy teenage diabetes diet!

The “rules” I will issue are as follows:

Reduce snacking, then change the type of junk food you eat. Definitely my biggest downfall even if it’s not really obvious to me. When I started college, I had little or no routine, which meant it was hard to fill my day and rushing into the kitchen for a snack, no matter how healthy. anyway, is a regular event.

This is one of the hardest things for some people, but establishing a good routine is essential for good diabetes management. Snacks to eat are unsalted nuts, unsweetened dried fruit, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables (I like red peppers and fresh cucumbers), dark chocolate (darker and nicer and you usually won’t want 2 squares). Reduce white flour and use whole carbohydrates.

This is the most essential part of your diet and the one that can show the biggest increase in weight loss. Some diets actually focus on this and are very effective. Whole-wheat flour (especially stone-ground whole-wheat flour) is great for you and has a lot more flavor so the transition is a lot easier than you might think.

Most people are really surprised at the range that you can get in your supermarket, again remember that the best bread for you is the freshest bread with few preservatives or additives. best. Also, brown rice or basmati rice is very good with a delicious texture. Whole-wheat pasta is amazing and for your potatoes I would totally recommend the new little potatoes. Stop drinking cocktails, start drinking. Cocktails are filled with sugar, colorants and preservatives.

When I was a college student, I had to practice hanging out a lot and not drinking cocktails so my drinks of choice were Malibu and Diet Coke if I felt like I needed to drink something and I would make it last all night. Then I can load up on Diet Coke (with virtually no sugar) and feel like I’m drinking Malibu, as everyone knows.

If you’re eating out, red wine is way better than anything you might order (except water, of course!) And the antioxidants in red wine have proven to be great for keeping keep your heart healthy. The recommended amount is one glass per day with your evening meal. Start cooking more fruits and vegetables. Fresh fruits and vegetables are a great way to get all the vitamins and minerals you need. And there are many different ways to cook vegetables, but I find it best to cook them raw, followed by steaming.

These two ways also preserve all their natural qualities. I will follow up this article with another article about recipes for diabetes. Drink more water. I know you’ve heard people say this many times before, but the benefits of drinking more water are endless.

A few tips to get you more water during the day is to put bottled water everywhere you go in the house or at work. So keep one in your office, on your desk, drinks in the kitchen, bedroom, living room, and more.

Try to drink all those glasses and you’ll be well up to 8 glasses a day. The trick is to add a glass every few days or so, if you try to drink all that water at once you won’t be so inclined to drink 8 glasses anymore, trust me! Go there, it’s amazing how good you will feel.
