Canada’s Top Travel Predictions and Trends for 2024.As global pandemic restrictions ease, travel is roaring back and Canadians are plotting their next trips, from familiar favourites to once-in-a-lifetime bucket list adventures.

According to KAYAK’s latest travel intentions survey, international flight searches in Canada are now exceeding pre-pandemic levels — and they’re still going strong. In 2024, travellers will be taking longer and more meaningful journeys abroad, exploring their world and supporting locals while doing so.

  1. The Year of Revenge Travel

This year, a new trend is taking off as Canadians are unapologetically making up for lost time. Known as revenge travel, travellers are going back to the places they had been missing out on and booking dreamy destinations that they never thought they could visit.

As a result, flight searches in Canada are up 98% this year, according to KAYAK’s 2024 Travel Trends Forecast. That’s double what it was last year, and that tells us that despite rising flight prices, Canadians are making up for their missed trips.

In fact, a new survey conducted by Allianz Global Assistance found that 70 per cent of Canadian millennials are planning to take a vacation this year. But, even so, 50% of these travellers say they can’t really afford a trip this year.

  1. The Year of Sustainable Travel

In a world where the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation are becoming more prevalent globally, more and more travellers are looking for ways to travel in a sustainable manner. This may mean avoiding certain destinations that have an impact on the environment, or seeking accommodation and transport providers that are making sustainability efforts a priority.

Luckily, Canada has taken significant steps to ensure its tourism industry is environmentally friendly. From reducing food waste to promoting the use of electric vehicles, destination organizations are actively supporting travellers in their pursuit for green travel experiences.
